Meet The Founder

Soulmat was founded by me, McKensie. A yoga instructor and health coach who believes movement should feel grounding, not draining.

After years of pushing through workouts that left me feeling overstimulated and disconnected (a quite frankly dizzy), I began searching for a different way to move. Something rooted in presence, consistency, and care for the nervous system.

Why Soulmat Exists

For years, I believed that harder meant better. High intensity workouts, and constant pushing, even when my body was clearly struggling.

I started experiencing frequent dizziness and vertigo, and instead of feeling energized after workouts, I felt inflamed, overstimulated and depleted. Movement no longer felt supportive... It felt like something I had to recover from.

When I finally slowed things down, everything began to change. Moving with more intention, longer holds, and steadier pacing allowed my body to feel safe again. The dizziness eased, inflammation decreased, and I began seeing the results I had been chasing all along... Not by doing more, but by doing less with greater awareness.

How This Philosophy Shows Up

That shift toward slower, more intentional movement is reflected in every aspect of Soulmat. Classes are thoughtfully sequenced, transitions are steady, and pacing is intentional-- allowing the body time to adapt, regulate and respond.

Rather than constantly changing formats or chasing intensity, we prioritize consistency and familiarity. When the body knows what to expect, it can soften, stabilize, and move with more confidence and ease.

Infrared heat and red light therapy are integrated to support circulation and recovery, not to push the body further. The environment itself is designed to feel calm, grounded, and supportive-- so movement becomes something you can return to, not something you have to recover from.

Training & Background

My approach to teaching is informed by both lived experience and formal training. I'm a certified health coach through Institute for Integrative Nutrition, where I developed a whole-person understanding of how stress, lifestyle, and nervous system health impact the body.

I later completed my 200-hour yoga teacher training through CorePower Yoga, with a focus on breath-led movement, anatomy, and intentional sequencing. These foundations guide every class taught at Soulmat.

What You Can Expect in Class

Classes at Soulmat are designed to feel steady, supportive, and intentional. You won't be rushed through transitions or pushed to keep up with anyone else. Instead, you'll be guided to move with awareness, connect to your breath, and honor what your body needs that day.

Whether a class is stronger or slower, the intention remains the same: to help you feel more grounded, less inflamed, and more at home in your body. The focus is on sustainable strength, nervous-system support, and leaving class feeling better than when you arrived.

Rooted In Intention

Soulmat exists from the belief that movement can be both effective and gentle-- structured yet supportive. When the body feels safe, it can heal, strengthen and truly change over time.

This space is for those who are ready to move with intention, listen to their body, and build a practice that supports real life.
